The other day I decided to be adventurous and lower the mowing deck two numbers down... that was a bad idea. I lowered it enough to hit one of the stepping stones in the yard; bent the blade and also made a pretty firework show as sparks flew out of the deck.
In the end, I had to buy two new blades. Below is the culprit.

When cutting grass, its best for grass to be left longer. It takes it less effort to recover and be green again. If you cut too low, it will go yellow/brown
Also besides bent blades, you may have screwed up some other innards of the mower. Ask me how I know. My mower was struggling to go through tall grass... I was like... spark plug? fine. Air filter? Fine. The key was sheered slightly but not enough to die. Had to replace the Flywheel. All that from hitting some stones much smaller than yours.

Do the two blades overlap enough that there’s not an uncut area between them as you ride?

Luckily it was a belt driven mower deck. Had that blade been bolted straight to the crank, it could have taken the engine with it.
Sucks, but on the bright side you get some fresh sharp cutting edges out of the deal. Always a bright side if you look hard enough I guess.

Make sure you didn’t crac k the mower blade spindle. They are usually made out of cast aluminum and will crack from impacts like that. I have bent blades back into shape but yeah, I would’ve bought new blades to o after seeing that.

I let someone borrow my pushmower, and they let their teenage son use it. He hit a tree stump, and bent the blade. I put a new blade on, only to discover the crankshaft itself is bent.
Did they offer to pay for it or at least buy me a 6 pack?
No...no they did not.

A tad. I got the mower for free, so he be spent over $100 getting it up and running... only to spent another $30 for new blades...

It was literally a firework show coming out of the deck. Watched it, then realized I needed to turn the deck off.

Previously, they did not overlap at all. Previously owner must of bought The Who g blades. They should have the correct ones now.
